Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera
Lucy and Savvy were best friends, growing up in a small town in Texas. One day Lucy is found covered in Savvy’s blood and everyone believes she murdered her best friend. Years later Lucy still can’t remember anything about the night. She has moved from Texas to LA to start a new life and escape the memories of her past. She now publishes romance novels, however she still struggles with the trauma of losing her nest friend and the brain injuries she endured which now result in temporary amnesia and blackouts.
Lucy revisits her hometown for her grandmothers birthday party. At the same time of her arrival home she encounters Ben Owns, host of a popular true crime podcast that is now covering Savvy’s murder for the second season of the podcast. He wants to interview anyone with information on the case and eventually ends up interviewing Lucy to hear her side of the story. Is she innocent? Can she be trusted? How much does she really remember about that night? Ben’s interviews with Lucy and other people around town reveal more about Lucy and Savvy, what motives there may have been, and their take on who could be the suspect.
What I Loved: I loved the characters in the book, the supportive and loving grandmother with a witty personality, the attractive, wise, and genuine host of the podcast, and of course the main character, Lucy, who is sassy and outspoken and you aren’t sure if you can trust her.
What I Didn’t Love: There is some heavy content (which is common in psychological thrillers), check your trigger warnings before reading!
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5
