The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

We have all had moments of regret, moments where we question what life would have looked like if we made a different decision. This book tells the story of a young woman who feels this way and gets the chance to re-do her past mistakes and regrets.

32 year old, Nora Seed is full of regret and dissatisfaction. She feels her life will never get better. After an attempt to end her miserable life she finds herself in the Midnight Library, where she has every opportunity to undo her regrets. The library is is overseen by her grade school librarian. The library contains books that will take Nora to alternate realities. Each book shows how her life would turn out if she made different decisions. She can choose a different career, undo past breakups, and move to different locations. She can now make better decisions and ultimately live the perfect life. Through experiencing different possibilities she ponders what is most important in life and what makes life worth living.

What I Loved: There is so much to love about this book. It was insightful, powerful, and thought provoking. I loved how the author dove deep into the character development of Nora and her life experiences. There was a lot of wisdom in the book and contained so many inspirational quotes that made you think about your own life. There is an ongoing theme throughout the book of living a life of love and contentment, recognizing all of the many blessings you have in your life, and not taking anything for granted.

What I Didn’t Love: nothing!

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

This book is for the one who: desires a fantasy genre book with deep themes. This would also make a great book for your book club since there are a lot of themes to discuss.
