Come Matter Here by Hannah Brencher
I couldn’t think of a better book for my first book review. This is the third time I’ve read this book and each time I read it I find ways that it applies to the season of life that I’m in, the words hit differently each time, and I fall in love with the author’s writing again and again.
Hannah Brencher is one of my favorite authors. She uses stories to tell life lessons that she has learned, which is brilliant because we tend to remember things much more if they are connected to a story.
I first read this book when it was gifted to me years ago, having no idea who the author was or what the book was about. I devoured it in a short time. I picked it up again a few years later in a tough season of my life when I knew I needed some truths, reminders, and inspiration. A few years later I picked it up again, knowing I would be encouraged by her words.
Hannah shares stories about her move from her home in Connecticut to Atlanta and how she was always running and chasing after something else, questioning if this was really going to be her new home. She shares honestly about her anxiety and depression and how people showed up and loved her. She encourages readers to be present where you are, to look for the beauty in the mundane, to show up for people, to invest in community, and to be open to what God has for you.
What I Loved: I love the way the author tells stories, it makes you feel like you are right there with her. Her writing is inspirational and makes me eager to pick up a notebook and a pen and start writing!
What I Didn’t Love: no negative critiques
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5
This book is for the one who: needs some encouragement to show up, right where you are for the life that God has for you
