I’d Rather Be Reading by Anne Bogel

I read this book during a snowstorm sitting by the Christmas tree with a cup of coffee. It was the perfect cozy read at the start of a new year as I planned which books I wanted to read this year.

In “I’d Rather Be Reading” author, blogger, and podcaster Anne Bogel discusses the benefits of reading in your life:

  • Reading improves your focus, vocabulary, communication skills, and your knowledge. And this applies to both fiction and non-fiction.

  • Books shape and define us, they are a part of who you are.

  • Books bring us together and create community and ways to relate to one another.

  • Books have the opportunity to change our lives.

She invites the reader to discover new ways to approach reading and to reflect on the role reading plays in their lives. She discusses:

  • The benefit for re-reading books

  • How to select a good book

  • The relevance of reading classics in the modern world

  • How to encourage your children to read

  • The importance of book reviews

Reading is a lifestyle - we invest hours of time to reading, immersed in the stories, connecting with the characters.

What I Loved: This was a book where I felt so understood! It reminded me why I fell in love with reading in the first place and why I want to continue to pursue this hobby. It’s such a lovely feeling to be reading a book about a hobby I love so much, written by someone who is knowledgable and devoted to that hobby. She describes the life of a reader so perfectly.

What I Didn’t Love: nothing, I thought it was beautifully written

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

This book is for the one who:  This is a perfect read for book lovers. People who love reading will find this book relatable and finish each chapter nodding their head in agreement feeling understood and thinking “yes, that’s so true, that’s me!"
